Description
This stunning table is dated to the 1970s, a period when interior design for the rapidly growing public environment gave assignments to a generation of Scandinavian furniture designers and nourishment for the quality-oriented furniture industry.
The respect for functionality and beauty is apparent at first glance. Scandinavian design is an approach that has been around for decades for a good reason. Clutter-free open spaces, craftsmanship and the highest quality materials define this approach and this table as well. While the large top is showcasing the exotic wood’s grain and versatile colours and patterns beautifully, the lower structure is the main design and decorative element. The tabletop is resting on a double “U”-shaped trestle base with twin plinths on each side. The smooth curves are enhanced by the dark strikes in the wood, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship and clever use of the material. Many recent interior design trends are inspired by the 1970s, and while many designs from the era could be defined as aesthetic crimes against humanity, Scandinavian furniture design kept its core elements and combined them with experimental shapes and forms.
This table is quite substantial without being intrusive, naturally standing to be the centre of the room. Each element, joint and line is obviously well crafted and solid, the attention given to every construction and finish detail is obvious.
