Description
This a wonderful Spanish Baroque-Style mahogany table that can serve multi-purpose setting. The generous nearly 77' width allow it to be either the perfect library table or dining table. The gorgeous barley twist legs and forged iron stretcher provide period detailing--permitting this handsome table to integrate into multiple settings: Spanish Colonial, Spanish or Mediterranean.
Iron trestle base tables similar to this example have their origins in the renaissance, with a lightening of the timbers occurring during the Baroque period and then on to a further lightening of the table into the Rococo and Neoclassical periods. Spain retained the Baroque style of furniture through to the 20th century, with a lightening in the carvings and woods used. The original Renaissance wood preference was oak which was gradually replaced by a finer grained walnut and then mahogany,
The table is ready for its next home--we have polished the table with several coats of hard paste wax in the European tradition. -
