Exquisite dressing table with articulating mirror designed by Margareta T. Nordman (1898-1981) and crafted by Keravan Puusepäntehdas for the Stockmann department store, Helsinki, having a wide shallow case with organically modeled gallery lip and two side drawers having brass pulls on tapered legs on cabriole feet, and a floating mirror (adjustable height, radial and vertical angles) with rounded rectangular frame, masterfully crafted in stained birch with brass pulls, and chromed metal mirror stand; Finland, late 1930s; paper maker label.
The sensitive organic modeling and elegant Modernist style of this dressing table typify furniture designer Margareta T. Norman's pioneering work. Trained at the Central School for Applied Arts (Taideteollisuuskeskuskoulun) in Helsinki, she was a talented figure within in the Stockmann department store's drawing office for furniture and interiors. Stockmann acquired the Kerava Puusepäntehdas (Kerava Carpentry Works) in 1919 to finely craft its internationally renowned offering of original Finnish Modern furnishings. -
