Description
England c.1770.
Extremely Rare and Handsome Piece of North Country English Furniture with the Strength of Design and Quality of Timber suggesting a Major Exponent of Great Country House Furnishings.
Superb Mahogany with Untouched Natural Patina this table has the most unusual proportions - being very slim in depth whilst quite large in length and still retaining perfect balance. Tulipwood Bandings to the top and unusually to the full height of the legs plus a strong fluting to the frieze make this an exceptional piece.
Provenance
ML personal Collection
Literature: Unknown - probably a bespoke piece.
Please see Norman Adams 18th C English Furniture" Page 18. The Importance of Patina. Patina cannot be reproduced and is a sure sign of authenticity. Better a lesser piece with patina than a good piece cleaned. -
