Vintage French 1970s Green Fossil Marble Coffee Table
-
Description
Dimensions: 16 ½” H x 51 ¼” W x 32” D
An imaginative and unique coffee table from 1970s France, featuring a hypnotic array of fossilized nautilus shells embedded in a blue-green stone as if it was transported right out of the ocean. The sculptural form is made of two parts: an oval (egg-shaped) slab of stone for a top surface that rests on a spherical base at a slight cantilever, all polished smooth to reveal the depth of color. Partially dyed to achieve the cerulean hue, the stone glistens from the nacre of the shells, a line of sediment is visible that is natural, not a crack. One small coin in the resin base shows a serial number and logo from an unknown artist or designer, who was likely inspired by the work of Heinz Lilienthal.
