William IV Mahogany Two-Drawer Server or Sideboard, England, circa 1835

$ 4,875
  • Description
    A C R O T E R I O N is pleased to offer this wonderful circa 1835 English late regency, William IV period solid mahogany server or sideboard of rectangular form, the exquisite luminescent-grain single-board top with molded edge and three-sided blind gallery to back and sides with unusual 'lamb's-tongue bouquet' carved central cresting surmounting flat-friezes with double flush front drawers having original turned knob-pulls, raised on turned legs with highly atypical carved 'smooth-planed-reed' fluting. Originally this form of table would have been known as a 'wash-stand'; the presented being a very large and fine example, and likely would have been in a bedroom or hall and held a basin, pitcher, toiletries, and other accoutrements for daily hygiene; now elegantly used in a breakfast or dining room as a serving table, or in an entry or hall as a useful "catch-all" or console table. Height to top of rear crest-detail is 37.5".
