Description
This rare coffee table, designed by Yngve Ekström and produced by Westbergs Möbler in Tranås, Sweden during the 1950s, is a quintessential example of Scandinavian modern design. The table’s form embodies organic shapes, functional elegance, and meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of the period.
The tabletop is softly triangular with gently rounded edges, creating a fluid and harmonious silhouette. A distinctive feature is the slightly elevated lip running along the perimeter of the tabletop, which curves subtly upwards. This functional detail prevents items from sliding off while adding a sculptural accent that enriches the table’s aesthetic presence.
Beneath the tabletop, a secondary shelf echoes the organic contours of the upper surface. This shelf is slightly recessed and provides practical storage space without compromising the open, airy feel of the design. The seamless integration of the shelf maintains a balanced and cohesive visual flow.
Supporting the table are three solid teak legs, which are gently tapered and angled outward to enhance both stability and visual lightness. The teak’s rich, warm patina and well-preserved grain patterns highlight the quality of the material and the table’s age.
The dimensions of the table are 129 cm in width (50.8 inches), 78.5 cm in depth (30.9 inches), and 50.5 cm in height (19.9 inches), making it a refined centerpiece for mid-century interiors.
