Antique ormolu mounted centre table by Zwiener Jansen Successeur
-
Description
This fine, antique table is by celebrated French cabinetmaker Zwiener Jansen Successeur, part of the celebrated furniture and interior design house Maison Jansen which was founded in Paris in 1880. The design is based on a model now housed at the Chateau de Fontainebleau, France, by Adam Weisweiler (french, 1744-1820) and Pierre-Philippe Thomire (French, 1751-1843).
The table top is circular and made from veined pink marble, banded with egg and dart ormolu. The four, fluted ormolu legs are mounted with caryatids (sculped figures serving as architectural supports), leading to a wooden platform on a curved, square plan with canted edges and ormolu egg and dart banding. A wooden, ormolu mounted urn stands in the centre of the base platform. Several of the gilt and patinated bronze mounts bear the stamp 'ZJ.' -
