Description
This exquisite and highly adorned Jack Gutschneider Brooch in 18 Karat Gold W/Lapis, Diamonds, Emeralds & Rubies originates from the United States, Circa 1960. Features an expansive composition of stepped leaf shaped gold elements in which rubies and sapphires are set, with a series of 16 round cut diamonds circumscribing the central cabochon lapis lazuli. On the vertical and diagonal corners of the brooch are cabochon emeralds, larger on the vertical and horizontal axes and smaller cabochons on the diagonals. The Brooch is full of movement and glittering detail, with a mesmerizing array of various precious stones all with striking natural hue and detailing, stunningly unified by the unique gold settings. Vein like striations in the settings overlap above the set stones to keep them in place, with a large oval cabochon of Lapis Lazuli making a powerful statement in the center of the brooch. Founded in 1957, New York based company Jack Gutschneider Jewelry Co. worked under the Van Gogh brand name. Despite such a short period of two decades, they have left impressive jewelry designs embodied in exquisite collectible jewelry. These sought after pieces appear at fine estate jewelry stores from time to time, striking with high craftsmanship and quality of materials. Traditionally, when creating jewelry the designer used precious metals and and high quality stones. In particular, opals, turquoise, rubies, corals, emeralds, sapphires, garnets and very often, if not always, diamonds. According to trademark records, last time the owner of the company filed his company trademark was on February 20, 1963. However, soon after the company ceased to exist.
A rare and highly stunning Brooch, this piece will style beautifully with a wide array of dress, sure to delight thoughtful collectors and those who appreciate some of the finest Mid-Century Modernist Jewelry. Signed with the JG JLRY maker's mark on the reverse of the brooch, with a rotating clasp. The buyer can have a loop added to this piece to make it versatile for wear as a pendant. In Excellent Vintage Condition. -
