Description
These Jean Vitau butterfly clip earrings are crafted in 18kt yellow gold and feature a vibrant mix of sapphires and emeralds. They include 48 yellow sapphires totaling approximately 3.50 carats, along with 16 pink sapphires and 16 blue sapphires, each set weighing about 1 carat. Four small tsavorites serve as delicate antenna accents, adding .08 carats to the design. Their colorful arrangement and fine craftsmanship make them a stunning and elegant accessory for any occasion. The earrings are clip on and measure 1 inch
Jean Vitau was a French-born jeweler who built his career in New York beginning in the 1960s, where he founded the Gemveto Jewelry Company. Renowned for his technical innovation, he patented the GemLok setting, a secure bar-style technique designed to hold diamonds and gemstones firmly in place while creating a smooth, elegant finish that would not snag on clothing. His designs often combined this engineering precision with artistry, drawing inspiration from nature and incorporating motifs of birds, flowers, and animals alongside modern, sleek lines. Working primarily in platinum and 18-karat gold, Vitau created pieces that balanced luxury and wearability, with an emphasis on fine diamonds and colored gems. He was also among the early jewelers to brand his collections in the U.S., establishing a reputation for both high jewelry masterpieces and fashionable, more accessible designs. Today, Jean Vitau’s work remains collectible on the estate jewelry market, admired for its craftsmanship, innovation, and distinctive style. -
