Description
Four 12th Century Islamic semi-precious stone bead chains
Islamic, c. 12th Century
Smallest necklace length 23cm, longest 40cm
These four bead chains form a beautiful set, and could be worn as necklaces or used as an ornamental decoration. Remarkably, the beads are just shy of 1000 years old, and were crafted in the Islamic world - the present day Middle East - in the 12th Century. However, crafted in strikingly coloured gemstones, these beads retain their beauty and charm as though they had been newly crafted.
Of the four chains of beads, which are all of different lengths, three are crafted from the mineral carnelian, which is prized for its vibrant orange-red colour. The fourth bead chain is crafted of rich, red garnet and clear, veined rock crystal in an alternating design. -
