Description
Even in the progressive heydey of the American Art Pottery movement at the turn of the 20th century, the works of Mississippi potter George E. Ohr were considered avant garde. His bohemian behavior and unusual appearance recorded in a series of photographic portraits earned him the title of "The Mad Potter of Biloxi". The mixture of red, cream and deep, rich midnight blue glazes on this jug are rare and heretofore not seen in this combination on Ohr pottery. Stamped "G.E. Ohr" on bottom.
