Guillermo Kahlo
German, 1871 - 1941
Guillermo Kahlo (1871-1941) was a German-Mexican photographer and father of the renowned artist Frida Kahlo. He was born in Pforzheim, Germany and moved to Mexico in the late 19th century, where he eventually settled in Mexico City.
Guillermo Kahlo was known for his photographic portraits of notable individuals, including Mexican president Porfirio Díaz and artist Diego Rivera. He also documented the indigenous peoples and landscapes of Mexico, as well as everyday life in the country.
Kahlo was a member of the Mexican Photographic Association and was involved in the promotion of photography as an art form. He had a significant influence on his daughter Frida, who often posed for him and learned about photography from him. Several of her paintings depict scenes from his photographs.
Guillermo Kahlo died in Mexico City in 1941, leaving behind a legacy as an important figure in Mexican photography.
