Stunning desk with drawers and compartment in Walnut by Phillip Lloyd Powell (1919-2008). The free-form surface is made of thick walnut plank with a patched joined design with two rosewood butterfly inlay. Free organic contour of the wood and natural knot holes were preserved and showcased in a Japanese Wabi Sabi way, similar to the work of the contemporary George Nakahsima whose studio was nearby. One side of the desk features a hand-chiseled surface in a signature Phillip Powell style. It has all original built-in features in the drawers as well as old stickers from the previous owner in NYC who customized this desk from Powell's New Hope, PA studio.
