Silk Hereke Rug with Metal Brocading

$ 15,500
  • Description
    A superb example of fine carpet weaving from the famed looms of Hereke, a small town east of Istanbul, where royal workshops were established in the nineteenth century to produce fine fabrics and carpets for the new palaces of the Turkish sultans. Fine carpets, in wool and in silk are made in and around the town to this day. This little rug appears to be a special order as it bears the name "Habibian" a famous manufacturer from the city of Nain, Iran, in addition to "Hereke" label. The small label woven on the fringes is a serial number.
