Formento + Formento

American

Formento and Formento emerge from a unique blend of art and fashion, embodying the essence of Third Picture Generation Artists. Their portfolio reflects an art film sensibility, manifested through extensive series that capture cinematic nuances. While their work isn't explicitly fashion-focused, they adhere to high fashion standards in casting, hair, and makeup, injecting a touch of glamour into each scenario. With top-notch locations and lighting, their photographs exude a genuine cinematic quality, akin to big-screen productions. Remarkably, Formento & Formento achieve soundstage excellence without the need for Hollywood budgets, showcasing their ability to travel light.

Richeille Formento, a former graphics designer, takes charge of styling and art direction, complemented by her husband BJ Formento's expertise in lighting and photography. Their inaugural significant body of work unfolded as a captivating portrait of the American West, utilizing a 25-foot Airstream for travel, where locations and casting were discovered spontaneously. Transitioning to their Japan Diaries, they entered as outsiders influenced by Japanese art and cinema, yet approached with fresh, eager eyes, exploring the exotic aesthetic contradictions of this ancient-yet-ultra-modern culture.

Their creations don't offer resolution but instead exude an irresistible allure, evoking a sense of longing for the strange and unknown. Each image drops hints of potential connections, leaving the interpretation to the viewer's imagination. Life unfolds in motion, reminiscent of cinema, where dreams, bound only by imagination, initiate in stills. Explore the captivating world envisioned by Formento & Formento, where every viewing sparks a different cinematic narrative in your mind.
