Claude Lalanne

French
Claude Lalanne (1924-2019) was a French artist and sculptor known for her unique and whimsical works that often incorporated elements of nature and the natural world. She was born in Paris and studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs, where she met her husband and artistic collaborator François-Xavier Lalanne. Together, they became known as Les Lalanne and created a wide range of sculptures, furniture pieces, and functional objects, such as mirrors, lamps, and even garden gates.

Claude Lalanne's work often featured organic shapes, textures, and materials, such as bronze, copper, and resin, and incorporated natural forms such as leaves, animals, and insects. Her sculptures were known for their playful and surreal quality, blurring the lines between art and function.

In addition to her collaborations with François-Xavier, Lalanne had a successful solo career and exhibited her work in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. She continued to work until her death in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of imaginative and innovative art.
