Yrjö Kukkapuro (born 1933) is a Finnish furniture designer and architect, known for his innovative use of materials and functionalist design principles. He has designed a wide range of furniture pieces over his career, including chairs, sofas, tables, and storage systems, and has received numerous awards and honors for his work.
 
Kukkapuro was born in Viipuri, Finland (now part of Russia), and studied architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology. He began his career as a furniture designer in the 1950s, and quickly gained a reputation for his minimalist, functionalist designs that emphasized simplicity, ergonomics, and user comfort.
 
One of Kukkapuro's most famous designs is the Karuselli chair, which he created in collaboration with the Finnish furniture manufacturer Haimi in 1964. The chair features a sleek, curved base and a rotating seat that allows the user to swivel and recline in comfort. It has become an icon of modern design and is still in production today.
 
Kukkapuro has also designed a number of other notable furniture pieces, including the Saturnus sofa, which features a modular, customizable design, and the Remmi series of tables and storage systems, which are made from lightweight, durable materials.
 
Throughout his career, Kukkapuro has remained committed to exploring new materials and production techniques, and has experimented with materials as diverse as fiberglass, foam rubber, and polyurethane. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Finnish State Design Prize and the Pro Finlandia Medal, and his designs are represented in major museums and collections around the world.
