Erik Kirkegaard

Erik Kirkegaard (1929-1986) was a Danish furniture designer known for his simple, elegant and functional designs. He was born in Denmark and trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
 
Kirkegaard began his career as a furniture designer in the 1950s, and quickly gained recognition for his innovative designs. His furniture was characterized by its clean lines, simplicity, and functionality, and he often used natural materials such as wood and leather.
 
Kirkegaard designed a wide range of furniture, including chairs, tables, and storage units, many of which are still produced today. His most iconic designs include the "Model 42" dining chair, the "OD61" lounge chair, and the "EK43" sideboard.
 
Kirkegaard's contributions to Danish design helped establish the Scandinavian design movement as a major force in the design world. His furniture designs continue to be celebrated for their timeless elegance and functionality, and his legacy continues to inspire contemporary designers.
