    Provenance: Found in a house in Seekonk, Massachusetts; John S. Walton Antiques; Private Collection, Virginia.

    Reference: Exhibited in Art & Industry in Early America: Rhode Island Furniture, 1650-1830 at Yale University, August 2016-January 2017, and illustrated in the accompanying catalog, number 79 (Rhode Island Furniture Archive, number 581). This secretary is also illustrated in Michael Moses' Master Craftsmen of Newport; The Townsends and Goddards, pages 306-307, figures 8.2, 8.2a and 8.2b. It appears in the May 1982 issue of The Magazine Antiques, page 980. The secretary is on the cover of the May 2007 issue of The Magazine Antiques and is the centerpiece of an article by Patricia Kane in the same magazine.
