Art Deco National Steel Guitar

Sold Sold
  • Description
This is a National Steel Guitar style No. 1, a tricone resonator with a round neck, manufactured in 1933. The design of these guitars was heavy influenced by the Art Deco, a style popular during the 1920's & 1930's. Manufactured & created by John Dopyera & guitar player George Beauchamp. The idea was to design a guitar that could compete with the brass section of a band or orchestra. Three resonator cones were added inside the metal body to amplify the sound, this loudness problem was later solved by electrification, but the metallic sound created by these steel guitars became very popular with Blues & folk performers. This example is in exceptional condition & has a rich sound when played. These guitars were also very popular with 'Bottleneck' or 'Slide' guitar players & many were produced with square necks to play the instrument flat, this example has a round neck which allows the player to play flat or in the more popular performing position.
