MaryBeth Karaus

Painting is a study of life; there are sharp contrasts and blurred edges, shades of intensity and subtle nuances of color, and it takes an artist’s eye to wield the brush that blends it all together. For over twenty years, MaryBeth Karaus has been that artist.

Karaus is a graduate of the respected DAAP Program of the University of Cincinnati, but her artistic training began years before any formal study.  As the daughter of a passionate artist, she was raised with an intrinsic appreciation and understanding of art that can never be taught. A devotee of the plein air school of artistic thinking, Karaus first began her career as a watercolorist, a form she was first drawn to because of the inspirational teachings of Robert James Foose of the University of Kentucky.

After building a solid foundation in the medium of watercolor, Karaus decided to expand her artistic horizons into a new form of expression. She began studying oil painting under the renowned artist Dan Gerhartz.

Karaus has had the privilege of working alongside    some of the Cincinnati’s best artists. In 2006 she won the top Award of Excellence from the Juried Exhibition of the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati.
