Description
A lovely antique Peruvian oil on linen painting from Spanish Colonial period late 18th-early 19th century. In the style of Classic Cuzco School, the painting depicts Madonna and Baby Christ and were heavily embellished with symbols of Christianity influenced by characteristic local flavors, such as the white floral crotchet laces, bejeweled crown an indigenous plants and flowers.
The canvas might be a fragment of a larger painting based on the composition. The foliate giltwood framed was period but from 20th century.
There are handwritten notes verso indicated that the painting was purchased in Peru in 1966 (see detail photo).
