Description
Probably Salem, Massachusetts, ca. 1810.
Mahogany, mahogany veneer, bird's-eye maple inlay, white pine secondary wood.
Condition: Excellent. Minor repairs (re-enforcement to the crest rail joining the back stiles. Additional holes to the back used for upholstery).
The sofa is complimented with a shaped crest rail and highlighted with a wonderful figured bird's-eye maple panel surrounded by mahogany veneer. The upholstered back is flanked by delicate, turned reeded arm supports and carved scrolled-shaped arms. The bow-front seat frame is supported by finely carved reeded legs ending on brass cup casters. Superb form and quality to the cabinetry. -
