Hans Brattrud

Norwegian
Hans Brattrud (1933-2017) was a Norwegian furniture designer best known for his iconic "Scandia" chair, which he designed in 1957. The chair's simple, sculptural form was influenced by Brattrud's love of the outdoors and his belief that furniture should be both beautiful and functional.

The Scandia chair was an instant success and has since become a classic of Scandinavian modern design. Its lightweight construction and ergonomic shape made it a popular choice for public spaces and private homes alike.

In addition to the Scandia chair, Brattrud designed a range of other furniture pieces, including tables, sofas, and lounge chairs. He was also involved in the design of several public spaces, including the Norwegian parliament building and the Oslo Opera House.

Throughout his career, Brattrud was recognized for his innovative use of materials and his commitment to sustainable design. He received numerous awards for his work, including the Norwegian Design Council's Award for Good Design and the Swedish Furniture Industry's Award for Best Furniture Design.
