Description
An American Arts & Crafts Period Pearl Necklace by Edward Oakes, of The Oakes Studio. The graduated pearls necklace have an handmade gold clasp, designed with a leaf and vine floral motif. Length approximately 18 1/2 ins
This unsigned necklace, is attributed to Edward Oakes of The Oakes Studio.
In 1923, Edward Oakes was awarded a Medal at the Society of Arts and Crafts of Boston. Oakes was proud when The Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired a pendant of his for its permanent collection Edith Alpers stated that this was "the first such purchase made from a living American craftsman" in an article British Jewelry Studies, Vol. 3) Today Jewelry by The Oakes Studio is in many Museum Collections. -
