Description
The Aubrac armchair is a sculptural and innovative seating piece by Jacques Jarrige, crafted using a novel technique that replaces traditional MDF with pressed cardboard. This approach not only reduces weight but also reflects Jarrige’s ongoing commitment to exploring sustainable, unconventional materials without compromising on structure or artistic integrity.
Hand-carved and finished with a hand-applied lacquer, the chair's organic form is defined by its flowing lines, asymmetric curves, and softly shifting planes—hallmarks of Jarrige’s intuitive sculptural language. The frame cradles a generous seat and high backrest, combining visual dynamism with comfort and stability.
The pressed cardboard allows for a surprisingly sturdy yet lightweight construction, while the lacquer finish enhances the fluidity of the form, giving it a sense of movement and tactile appeal. The interplay of solid and void, curve and contour, creates a rhythm that animates the chair from every perspective.
As with all of Jarrige’s work, the Aubrac armchair is more than functional—it is a living form that brings a poetic presence to its surroundings. Custom finishes and upholstery options are available upon request. -
