FINE QUALITY CHIPPENDALE PERIOD MAHOGANY SERPENTINE CHEST OF DRAWERS
-
Description
With a thumbmolded serpentine top above a conforming case with four cockbeaded long drawers.
This chest, although simple, is of the finest quality in both timbers and construction. The drawer facings are solid mahogany, the underside is coated in a faded red wash and interestingly the blocks supporting the feet are constructed in layers. All of these elements are characteristics of the Chippendale workshop and although we can find no direct provenance, given the quality it would be reasonable to assign an attribution to the workshop.
Swan neck handles replaced, but period.
English, possibly workshop of Chippendale. 1760 -
