Bernhard Schottlander Rare Floor Lamp, Model G-37, Bergboms, Sweden, 1950s
-
Description
A very very rare model "G-37" floor lamp, designed in 1951 by Bernhard Schottlander. This metal lamp was produced under license of Bergboms, Sweden. Due to its construction of tripod feet, the long, slender and bent stem and the sculpted shade, it was also called the 'Mantis' lamp. The lamp is made of a white lacquered metal frame and a yellow shade. The lamp is adjustable and has a counterweight to keep it fixed. The height can vary between 135 and 170 cm. Schottlander was a German born sculptor and designer who lived and worked in England for most of his life. Inspired by the Kinetic sculptures of Alexander Calder, Schottlander designed his series of 'Mantis' lamps in 1951. In 1963 he made the switch to being a full-time sculptor.
