A Punu Granary Door Panel on Custom Stand with Provenance

$ 8,500
  • Description
    A wonderful Punu wooden door panel with the iconic carved female figure circa early to mid-20th century. These door panels were used for granary in Gabon. The door displays strong evidence of in situ use, an attractive patina as well as some old damages from the use (see detail photos). We believe that it is an authentic field piece. There is a collection series number marked under bottom edge of the door as shown. Displayed on a custom made fine art stand with the stand maker's label Amyas Naegele remains underneath the base.
    Provenance: Collection No.8670 from the Estate of Merton D. Simpson (1928-2013), an American abstract expressionist painter and African and tribal art collector and dealer.
