This sheet is probably by the same hand as the unpublished drawing, “Two butterflies and another insect,” on paper in the Rijksprentenkabinet, Rijkmuseum, Amsterdam (inv. no. 1921:180), monogrammed P.B.F (Pieter Barbiers Fecit). Barbiers’s style includes his subtle definition of form, and a sensitive, natural way of drawing antennae, which contribute to an overall soft quality, which can be seen in this sheet.
