Rare German Art Nouveau Copper Planter

Sold Sold
  • Description
This rare German Art Nouveau, or Jugendstil, planter has a hand-hammered copper body executed in the Japanisme taste with low relief stylized lotus flowers, undulating wave forms with pierced circles throughout, a raised wave form rim, and flanking brass handles. The design of this planter relates directly to the work of Bernhard Pokok, the German painter, graphic artist, architect, designer, and co-founder of the United Workshops for Art in Crafts. Based in Munich and later in Stuttgart, Pokok created designs for the decorative arts that exhibit a robust expression of the Art Nouveau aesthetic.
