Description
Pair of Lithyalin glass and gilt bronze vases
French, c. 1870
Height 48.5cm, width 27cm, depth 19cm
This wonderful pair of vases, crafted from Lithyalin and gilt bronze, is a remarkable piece of design. Each vase features a body of ovoid form, with a flared neck and shoulders. The glass, known as Lithyalin glass, is a marbled glass whose surface resembles polished gemstone. The gilt bronze mounts affixed to each vase are extraordinary: wide, sweeping curves predominate, accenting the curvaceous glass bodies.
The pair is attributed to the St. Louis Glassworks. -
