Gmundner Keramik Art Deco mask of a Woman, 1930, Austria

$ 1,800
  • Description
    Gmundner Keramik started to produce modern decorative sculpture ceramics in 1903.

    The Schleiss family was a patron of the arts in the region. In 1909 the Franz and Emilie Schleiss Art Workshop opened its doors and began making ceramics and merging with Wiener Keramic, which served as a sales association for the Wiener Werkstätter. The united Wiener and Gmundner Keramik and Gmundner Tonwarenfabrik Scheiss Cmbh attracted many talented ceramic artists such as Peche, Powolny, Zülow and Hartmann and turned Gmundnen into an artist colony.

    This is a rare and unusual wall mask, the design and quality is stunning, the carving of the head ornament, the application of the hair curls is unique. This is one of the best Austrian Art Deco wall mask that I have seen in a very long time.

    The piece is fully mark with the original paper label and address plus model #1791.
