Lumifer by Javier Robles
Javier was born and raised in Peru, and began designing and prototyping furniture and lighting while attending architecture school at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. His first product design was a desk lamp composed of construction rebar and was aptly named Lumifer; a portmanteau of Portuguese luminaria and ferro, meaning iron light.
Soon after completing his Masters at Columbia University in New York City, he taught at New York’s New School – Parsons School of Design in their Product Design and Interior Design Department. During these years, he furthered his interest in new materials and technologies, which influenced the custom pieces he designed in conjunction with his architectural commissions to build the portfolio of original products now offered through his lighting and furniture studio.
The creation of Lumifer came as a response to Javier's constant search for products that can be seamlessly integrated with his interior projects. His ability to design and craft objects in different scales helped define a line of products that are simple in form, yet sophisticated in materiality and detailing.
With extensive international experience, Javier Robles draws on his deep design knowledge and multicultural experience to share his passion for architecture, design and art with his clients through his residential, commercial and cultural projects throughout the United States, Europe, North Africa and Latin America. He founded Utopus Studio in London in 2004 and Javier Robles Studio in New York in 2014.
