Alyse Stone
American
Alyse Stone (b. New York, NY) is an American, multi-disciplinary visual artist and mechanical engineer. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
Creating through her studio house, Stone Cold Caviar, the work of Alyse Stone lives and breathes at the compelling intersection of art, engineering, and design. With paintings executed with deliberate, often convulsive gestural brushwork, the artist uses acrylic, functional objects, and mixed media on canvas and wood. Inspired and driven by her passion for creating beautiful and functional objects from artwork to products, her burgeoning art practice continues to evolve from large-scale paintings to include sculpture and light installation. The spontaneity reminiscent and ever-present in graffiti fuels her form of creative expression, which in turn speaks to an emotive feeling of forceful action and improvisational perception. Striking compositions evoke a continuance in the long lineage of abstract expressionist painters before her, including artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Cecily Brown, and Mark Bradford, as she challenges herself to produce vital and ever-changing work within the complex contemporary art canon.
Alyse received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from George Washington University and was sponsored by Northrop Grumman as a Jackie Robinson Scholar. The artist completed additional coursework at the University of California’s (UCLA) Visual Arts Program and the Product Design Program at the Art Center College of Design.
Stone’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States, as well as for the 2019 GRAMMY Awards celebration. Stone debuted her first solo show titled, Abstract Realities, in Santa Monica, CA this past winter. The artist has been featured most recently on Good Morning America, NBC LA News, Access Hollywood, Billboard, and Voyage LA Magazine. Stone’s recent art activism initiative, titled THE ART OF MAKING NOISE, brought together seventeen notable and powerful executive-level women to spotlight the deep history of racial violence in America. In addition, GRAMMY Award-Winning musicians Lionel Richie and Jose Feliciano have commissioned Stone, with the commission debut for Jose Feliciano at the Detroit Tigers Stadium at the Blue Moon sponsored World Series Exhibition, followed by a feature at the Detroit Historical Museum.
