French 19th Century Walnut Buffet
-
Description
Made using peg joinery, this exceptional solid-walnut antique case piece was made to last. The buffet was made in France, circa 1860, and does not escribe to any particular period or style. It is a transitional piece that has a restrained design, reminiscent of Louis Philippe, with straight lines and modestly carved panel doors. Three drawers are positioned above the two doors, all equipped with cut steel drop pulls. The two outer drawers are wider than the drawer found between them. The panel doors are hung on steel barrel hinges and have ornamental cut steel escutcheons that surround their keyholes. The buffet has a spacious interior, outfitted with a single fixed drawer and secured by a functioning lock. Warm, weathered walnut is one of our favorite things, and this antique case piece has it in spades!
