Description
An antique Chinese embroidery panel, originally the sleeve band of a robe from Qing Dynasty, circa 19th century. Nicely presented as a textile art with creative and meticulous matting and framing. Originally from Norton's Oriental Gallery in Newport, Rhode Island by Kathleen Norton, this piece of lovely textile of mostly blue and white silk threads features Peking knots and Forbidden stitches with satin stitches. It depicts peonies and butterflies that adored the sleeves of a robe. Very artistic presentation with contrasting silk and linen matting of pink and gold and a matching cutout embroidery accent motif. Gallery label and note remain on the back as shown.
