Each Susan Fanfa design is born from a close collaboration between artist and fabricator. The design process often begins with a mistaken image - a blurry figure taken in by tired eyes, or a glimpse requiring a double-take, inspires a new configuration, a design taking shape in metal or wood. From a quick line drawing, Susan goes straight to the metal shop. Working with her longtime fabricator, Susan creates clean, simple designs that require tremendous skill and detail. “With an unadorned shape you can’t hide flaws that are easily hidden into a carved wood piece with ornamentation,” she notes. Since 1998, the Susan Fanfa Design collection of furniture and lighting has demonstrated the attention to detail needed to create clean, elegant minimalist pieces.
Understanding that designers want versatility and the ability to customize pieces to create individualized statements in each space, Susan welcomes the opportunity to transform her designs to complement other unique visions. Each SUSAN FANFA DESIGN piece is made to order and fabricated by hand in Los Angeles, California.
