    A very rare set of four mahogany highly carved Chippendale chairs. Philadelphia, circa 1745–65. Similar chairs are pictured in a pamphlet written by Jay Stiefel in 2008. Rococo & Classicism in Proprietary Philadelphia: The Origins of the Penn Family Chairs.

    The closest models are a set of six in the State Dept. Diplomatic rooms. These chairs descended in the James Henderson family of NYC. Also James Monroe’s family.
