Description
Made by Joseph Alfred LePage
Fall River, Massachusetts, Mid-20th c.
Joseph LePage (1885-1976) moved from Quebec at an early age and worked in the lumber business in New England and Upstate New York. Acquired directly from the great, great grandson, who states in a letter, “The story goes that he (Joseph) carved six lamps, one for each of his children. This one was for my grandmother, Mémère LePage Berube…”
Carved wood, polychrome painted, marquetry inlaid base. Lamp shade carved, pierced wood panels.
Overall in excellent condition, some shrinkage cracks to the shade.
An exceptional example of a whimsical, yet well executed piece of mid-29th c. American folk art. -
