    The Rest After the Hunt.
    Signed and dated: RW Hubbard, 1870.
    Oil on canvas. 13 ¼” x 24”, 20 ½ x 31 ½” with frame.
    Over-all in fine condition, wax lined, minor scattered in-painting. Appears to be in the original carved gilt frame.
    Provenance: Howard Godel Fine Art, New York. Elliot Vessell, Hershey, Pennsylvania, 1986. Private Collection, 2019.
    Richard Hubbard was best known for his landscape paintings of New England and New York state. After graduating from Yale University in 1837, he studied painting with Samuel. F.B. Morse. Hubbard exhibited for over 40 years at the National Academy of Design, along with many other art associations and institutions. This expansive view, Rest After the Hunt, was painted at the peak of career in 1875.
