Description
TALL CASE CLOCK BY MORDECAI MILLER OF ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA
This clock is a fine example of the artistry of the Washington DC area during the Federal period. The clock face is signed: MILLER/VIRGINIA for Mordecai Miller (1764-1832), Quaker clockmaker, silversmith, merchant and abolitionist of Alexandria. The case is attributed to Henry Ingle, cabinetmaker to Thomas Jefferson and George Washington in Philadelphia who migrated south to Alexandria as the activity in the new capitol city burgeoned after the Revolution. -
