Description
RYDER ANTIQUES OFFERS SWEDISH AND FRENCH ORIGINAL PAINTED COUNTRY FURNITURE AND FOLK ART. WE EMPHASIZE THE EMPIRE PERIODS AND EARLIER.
Swedish Empire Mantle Clock.
Description: Swedish empire mantle clock wood carved. Clock face signed "Nils Holmqvist" ( active Stockholm, Sweden as a clockmaker). Ca. 1800. Cut painted and gilded in the form of a female figure atop a Roman oil lamp. Has had minor restorations otherwise normal wear commensurate with its age. Front doesn't have window glass or the back without a cover. According to sources it wasn't unusual not to have the above. Most of the Swedish clocks were made of wood whereas the French were of metal. This was because the Swedish didn't have access to metal but had an abundance of wood.
Size: 18in by 12.5in (46cm by 32cm).
