French
Aurélie Mathigot, a prominent French contemporary artist born in 1978 in Lille, France, is celebrated for her multidisciplinary approach encompassing textile art, embroidery, sculpture, and installation. Her artistic journey began with studies in textile design at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, laying the foundation for her innovative exploration of materials and techniques.
Mathigot's oeuvre is characterized by a seamless integration of found materials and traditional craft methods, such as crochet and embroidery, serving as a means to delve into profound themes of memory, identity, and the transient nature of existence. Through her installations, she constructs immersive environments that beckon viewers to interact with her work on a visceral level, engaging their senses and emotions.
Among Mathigot's notable creations are the captivating "Réservoir" series, featuring expansive installations of suspended crocheted forms that evoke a dreamlike, cloud-like ambiance. Additionally, her "Herbiers" series showcases intricately embroidered drawings of plant specimens, meticulously collected and rendered by the artist.
Mathigot's artistic prowess has garnered international acclaim, with exhibitions held in esteemed galleries and museums worldwide, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the prestigious Venice Biennale.
