Description
Over the past two decades, a term describing a specific period of design has become the marketing descriptor du jour. "Mid-century modern" broadly, but also loosely describes the furniture from the middle of the 20th century. Crossing exquisite Scandinavian craftsmanship with function-over-form modern design is the defining characteristic of the era, and of this armchair.
This chair holds a soft simplicity and a uniqueness in its appearance - light, clean lines with an air of romance. This armchair has an unmistakeable shape, with a backrest that flows down to form the armrests that sit low, therefore opening the seat to create an airy, open look. Swedish design is a remarkable combination of concern for comfort and materiality melded with a desire for clarity, that is evidently present in the lines of this armchair. The tufted back’s buttons serve as the only form of ornamentation, therefore they stand out even more. The unique upholstery of the body and seat cushion is complemented by the tapered, stained wood legs. Tilted in the back, the slim legs have a classically modern, Scandinavian look.
This armchair expresses a particular feeling of warmth and comfort with the friendly and rounded forms. The femininity and the impression of simplicity that is often associated with Swedish Modern design is apparent in this armchair. Standing at the intersection of form and function, this is a timeless piece that will never go out of style.
