Enrique Garcel Greek Key Mirror Tessellated Bone 1970s Studio Crafted Columbia

$ 5,500
  • Description
    This exceptional 48-inch round mirror is a rare and highly sophisticated example of Postmodern studio craftsmanship by Spanish designer Enrique Garcel. Produced during the mid-1970s in his celebrated Bogotá, Colombia workshop, the piece represents a significant structural departure from Garcel's more common, uniformly flat lacquered goatskin or horn designs. Instead, it showcases a highly unusual, three-dimensional geometric relief that highlights the designer's experimentation with Neoclassical architectural motifs within a luxury Hollywood Regency framework.

    The mirror is engineered using a robust tropical hardwood backing panel—a signature physical characteristic of high-end furniture produced in 1970s Colombian artisan studios. The frame's face features a masterfully executed composition of hundreds of individual, precisely fitted tessellated bone tiles. Rather than utilizing carved incisions, the design achieves its striking visual impact entirely through varied surface depth. The geometric Greek key (Meander) motif is composed of raised, multi-layered bone segments that project forward from the recessed background plane. This deliberate play with elevation uses natural ambient light to cast crisp, structural shadows, delineating the iconic linear pattern purely through architectural depth.
