After a relatively quiet start to the New Year a few stories dropped this week that confirm everyone is back at work and ready to do business — sort of.

Dezeen reports that ongoing Covid-19 concerns have forced the Salone del Mobile to postpone its Milan event from April to June 7–12, 2022. Makes sense with all the uncertainty around travel right now.





Meantime the Art Newspaper reports the American Folk Art Museum in New York has received a gift from collectors Lucy and Mike Danziger of a circa 1815 painting by 19th-century folk portrait painter Ammi Phillips.





On a bright note, Afro-Caribbean furniture designer Mac Collins has won the London Design Museum's Ralph Saltzman Prize for emerging designers. He will receive a retrospective at the Design Museum in London from 2 February 2 to April 2, 2022.





From the mergers and acquisitions desk here we can report that Designboom was acquired by rival architecture websites Architonic and ArchDaily. The English auction house Bonhams has acquired a leading Nordic auction house, Bukowskis, in an effort to foster its expansion into Europe.





Also in auction news the New York Times reports that an Americana collection of the late book dealer William Reese will be sold in a series of auctions at Christie’s, described as “one of the most valuable single-owner book troves to ever come to auction”.





Strange but true, this week it was widely reported that a badger unearthed a trove of ancient Roman coins in a cave in northwestern Spain, which were then discovered by a local man who very nicely called archaeologists, according to CNN. The coins — over 200 — date from the 3rd to the 5th century. 





In case you missed it, the color gurus and trend forecasters who paint our world announced their predictions for 2022 — Pantone’s choice is, drum roll, Very Peri as its 2022 Color of the Year.





Adios finally to British American journalist and editor Beverly Russell, who died at the age of 87, The New York Times reported. Russell served as editor in chief of the magazine Interiors and later as the editorial director of Architecture magazine. She also published several books on interiors.
