Description
Dozens of pieces of furniture labelled with the design-world buzzwords “mid-century” and “mid-century modern” will come up on practically any furniture retailer’s search pane despite the fact that there is hardly anything that relates to the era’s design. This lounge chair however, is a true and unique example of the innovativeness of the style.
Admittedly, mid-century modern is a difficult term to define. Most of the designs of the mid-century had gone out of fashion by the late 60s, but in the early- to mid-eighties, interest in the period began to return. Looking at this chair it is easy to see why. There are several characteristics that will never go out of style: quality materials, functionality, and craftsmanship. This model has a defined curve that dictates the overall look. The upholstered body is curved with sectional parts, thanks to which the comfort of this lounge is supreme. Thanks to the ergonomics, the body of the sitter is fully supported. While the design is led by the upholstered structure, the tapered beech legs and armrests are also very appealing with their warm colour. The white lacquered metal arms in particular are an interesting and unexpected feature that adds modernity to the design and shows the experimentation with materials that defined the era.
Mid-century pieces are simply well-designed objects, with a timeless look that sits very well in contemporary homes and interiors—they still feel fresh today, they still feel modern. A lot of those pieces haven’t been bettered. They still stand the test of time as this unique lounge chair shows.
