Description
Large Belle Époque period carved wood wall mirror
French, late 19th Century
Height 166cm, width 122cm, depth 22cm
This fine Belle Epoque mirror is crafted from ebonised wood in a decadent manner. The oval mirror features an ornate frame: the frame itself is encompassed by twin branches laden with leaves, with the branches tided at the bottom by a ribbon. A pair of love birds perch at the bottom, while two putti play on the mirror’s crown; a third putto stands on the right-hand branch. The wood carving is exceptional, and the trompe l’oeil effect is marvellous. -
